Best of the Best Helmet Cameras

When it comes to recording those unforgettable moments of extreme sports no one wants to skimp out on the price and risk bad quality. There are so many options out there of what product to buy and what image resolution is better than the other so there really is quite a bit to consider when shopping. You don’t just want to pick the first one that you find because they say it is the best you have to think about what you want to record and see if it fits your needs.

Some cameras are known for their image quality such as the 580X which has great quality with a microphone and is all weather but you need to see if it is good quality video. What if it tends to skip quite a bit like a cd player does that doesn’t have protection against that type of thing. Sometimes when you want one thing you do have to sacrifice another but I don’t believe you should when it comes to a helmet camera.

For example the best one I have found so far is the HCR-100 which is for extreme sports so you know it is already going to be all weather right. The thing you don’t know is that it is also anti-vibration and it has great visibility in low light conditions which is great if you like early morning rides and there is a lot of fog around. It is also a color recorder which is a great plus and it gives great quality of recordings so you don’t have to go back and edit everything for clarity.

The next one up is the DogPro 550-580 Sony HQ1 and I hear it is of great quality when it comes to the recorded images. This is definitely one that you have to consider if you are big on the clarity of your recording, it also h as the fastest DSP and the better color reproduction of most of the models out there. This truly is one of the best cameras out there but then again there are quite a few that are great to use.

Some of the others are the Helmet Hero 3, the Twenty20 helmet camera, Archos, Samsung SC-X21 OWL, 580 Sport Camera, and the POV.1 hands free camera. All of these have great uses when it comes to helmet cameras and are great to have but some are missing things needed. For example the Samsung has a 15 feet range from the base camera since it is wireless but this means you need to carry both the helmet camera and the base camcorder. This really isn’t convenient when it comes to recording real time footage.

Now the Archos, Helmet Hero 3 and the 580 Sports camera all have great video quality are for extreme sports and but some have better features. For example the Helmet Hero 3 has dvd quality recording abilities and is all weather just as the others are but they don’t’ record so well. Then again the 580 Sport Camera has an self adjusting iris to adjust to changing light conditions which most the others do not. So you see there really is so so much to consider when buying your helmet camera and you need to be sure you will get exactly what you need.
